STARKVILLE Forty-three Mississippi State student-athletes received their undergraduate degrees following 2016 spring commencement exercises on the MSU campus.

Thirty-three Bulldogs earned a perfect 4.0 GPA this semester to receive “Top Dawg” honors. Five of those graduated with a 4.0 cumulative GPA, including women’s golf’s Logan Chaney (criminology), women’s tennis’ Naomi Tran (accounting and finance) and women’s track and field’s Cornelia Griesche (economics), Madison Milhoan (biological sciences) and Sydney Rodkey (criminology).

Academically, the 2015-16 campaign was a successful one as 91 Bulldogs made the Dean’s Scholar or President’s Scholar lists, while 182 student-athletes earned a spot on the Bulldog Honor Roll with a spring 2016 semester GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Women’s scholarship student-athletes posted an outstanding GPA of 3.24 with all squads earning a 3.0 GPA or better. Coach David McFatrich’s volleyball squad led the way with a 3.44 GPA of those on scholarship. Coach Daryl Greenan’s women’s tennis program, coming off back-to-back NCAA postseason appearances, produced a 3.42 GPA that includes scholarship student-athletes and walk-ons.

Coach Vic Schaefer’s Sweet 16 women’s basketball team not only generated its finest season ever on the court but did so in the classroom as well. The squad’s 3.31 spring GPA was the program’s highest ever.

Coach Matt Roberts’ tennis squad, which advanced to the NCAA Championships round of 16, led the way on the men’s side with a 3.37 GPA this semester. Coach Dan Mullen’s football team, coming off the winningest two-year stretch in program history, earned its highest spring GPA since 2008 and its second-highest since team GPA calculations began in the spring of 1995.
